Overview
One of the most durable batteries available on the market is the LiFePO4 battery (also known as lithium iron phosphate battery).
We will discuss how long the LiFePO4 battery lasts and how to take care of it to extend its life in this article.
Part 1. What Is A LiFePO4 Battery?
LiFePO4 stands for Lithium (Li) Iron (Fe) Phosphate (PO4). This type of lithium battery has many advantages over other lithium batteries and lead-acid batteries, including a longer lifespan, lighter weight, and improved safety. LiFePO4 batteries are becoming increasingly popular.
Part 2. How Long Will LiFePO4 Batteries Last?
There is a maximum lifespan of 10 years for LiFePO4 batteries, which are also called LFP batteries. They can last for about 5,000 cycles at 80% depth of discharge, which is much longer than that of lead-acid batteries. Because of their long lifespan, LFP batteries are widely used in a wide range of applications.
One of the most durable batteries available on the market is the LiFePO4 battery (also known as lithium iron phosphate battery).
Part 3. How to Look After LiFePO4 Batteries?
To maximize the performance of LiFePO4 batteries, we need to pay attention to a few things.
Charge The LiFePO4 Batteries Correctly
One of the main causes of decreased battery life and poor performance is overcharging. Overcharging can cause heat inside the batteries, and extreme overcharging may result in a fire.
A LiFePO4 battery cell has a maximum voltage of about 4.2V. It is recommended to charge the battery at a voltage of about 3.65V per cell, which ensures a lower charging temperature and prevents long-term damage.
The proper DoD range for LiFePO4 batteries is 70-80%. Over-discharging may also damage the batteries.
Store The LiFePO4 Batteries Carefully
Lithium iron phosphate batteries must also be stored properly if you want them to last a long time.
When the batteries are stored at high temperatures, their capacity and performance will be reduced. Self-discharge occurs at 3% a month for LiFePO4 batteries. By storing them at a suitable ambient temperature, they can be extended in life. The following temperature ranges are recommended:
1.One month: -20 °C to 60 °C
2.Three months: -20 °C to 45 °C
3.Six months: -20 °C to 25 °C
